Over 120,000 Students Benefit from ‘No Fees Stress’ Policy – SLTF

The Students’ Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has disclosed that more than 120,000 students have received financial support through the government’s flagship ‘No Fees Stress’ policy.

According to the Director of Corporate Communications at SLTF, Obeng Agyenim Boateng, the initiative has already reimbursed academic fees for first-year students enrolled in public tertiary institutions across the country. The policy, which is equity-based, was designed to eliminate financial obstacles that prevent students from accessing higher education.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, August 18, 2025, Mr. Boateng clarified that delays in payment for some students were due to discrepancies in submitted information.

“The Student Loan Trust Fund, as we speak, has been able to reimburse academic user fees to 120,000 students across the country. In every system, when we are dealing with such issues and numbers, there will be issues and discrepancies. This is not an exception,” he noted.

He further explained that one of the major challenges faced by the Fund was mismatched data provided by some students, which created difficulties in processing payments.

The ‘No Fees Stress’ policy was first introduced by President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 election campaign, with a commitment to abolish academic user fees for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions within his first 120 days in office. True to this promise, the government officially launched the policy on Friday, July 4, 2025.

The initiative continues to stand as a significant milestone in promoting access to tertiary education for Ghanaian students.
