GES Directs Nkwanta SHS Headmaster to Step Aside Over Alleged Unauthorized Media Engagement

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed the Headmaster of Nkwanta Senior High School, Mr. Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, to step aside from his duties with immediate effect. The directive, issued on August 5, 2025, was communicated through the Oti Regional Education Office.

According to the GES, the decision follows an alleged unauthorized media engagement by the headmaster on August 4, 2025. During this engagement, Mr. Bagmae reportedly sought public assistance for the feeding of students taking part in the ongoing WASSCE examinations without prior approval from the appropriate authorities.

As part of the directive, the headmaster has been asked to halt all official duties and refrain from making public comments on the matter while an independent and objective investigation is carried out.

Additionally, Mr. Bagmae has been instructed to hand over all school property and administrative responsibilities to the Regional Director of Education in Oti until the investigation concludes. The GES noted that further instructions will be given in due course.

The directive was signed by Mrs. Irene Jacquelinda Afiba, Acting Regional Director of Education, Oti Region. Copies of the correspondence were sent to the GES Director-General, the Oti Regional Minister, the Regional Internal Auditor, the Municipal Director of GES, the Municipal Chief Executive of Nkwanta South, and other relevant offices.
