In a significant announcement during the mid-year budget review on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Ghana’s Finance Minister delivered encouraging news for nursing and teacher trainees across the country.
Addressing Parliament, the Minister confirmed that the government has successfully paid all allowances due to nursing and teacher trainees from January to June 2025.
“Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to inform this Honourable House that we have paid all nursing and teacher training allowances from January to June 2025,” he stated during his presentation.
This payment covers students at all levels currently enrolled in Colleges of Education and Nursing Training Institutions, offering some relief after months of concern about delays.
Even more promising, the Minister assured that starting this month, trainees can expect timely monthly payments going forward.
“Right Honourable Speaker, beginning at the end of this month—July 2025—all nursing and teacher trainees will receive their allowances promptly at the end of every single month,” he affirmed.
Despite the announcement, teacher trainees are yet to see the funds reflected in their bank accounts as of today. However, based on the Finance Minister’s declaration, the money has already been released and payments are expected to be credited soon.
This development brings a renewed sense of hope and stability to many trainees, especially those who rely on the allowance to cover their essential expenses. Regular, timely payments will enable them to better support themselves and their families, allowing them to focus more effectively on their education and training.
Concluding his address, the Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to empowering future healthcare professionals and educators in Ghana.
“Mr. Speaker, I will now move to the conclusion of my presentation,” he said as he wrapped up.
