John Dumelo Donates 500 Bags of Rice to Support Needy Students at the University of Ghana

John Dumelo, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, has once again extended his generosity toward students in need. On Tuesday, July 23, 2025, he donated 500 bags of rice to financially struggling students at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The donation, which forms part of the university’s Food Bank Initiative, was officially handed over through the Dean of Students, Professor Rosina Kyeremanten. The initiative aims to support students on campus who often face challenges securing three meals a day.

In a Facebook post accompanying photos from the event, Dumelo shared:

“This morning I donated 500 5kg bags of rice to the University of Ghana through the Dean of Students, Prof. Rosina Kyeremanten. The food bank initiative was launched by UG to help financially vulnerable students who find it hard to sometimes have 3 square meals on campus. #idey4u.”

The images captured during the presentation show Dumelo standing beside Professor Kyeremanten and other university officials, with neatly stacked rice bags ready for distribution to students who rely on the food bank for daily sustenance.

This act of kindness is not Dumelo’s first gesture of support to the student community at the University of Ghana. Long before winning his parliamentary seat in the 2024 elections, he had been involved in various initiatives aimed at improving student welfare. These include providing free transportation for students heading home during holidays, donating laptops to promote digital learning, and organizing giveaways to support academic and daily needs.

John Dumelo’s continued dedication to student well-being underscores his commitment to addressing the real-life challenges many university students face. His contributions have left a meaningful impact and continue to foster goodwill among the student population.

Stay tuned for more highlights from the donation event.
