Education Minister Orders Immediate Dismissal of Teachers Involved in Exam Malpractice

Ghana’s Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take decisive action against teachers implicated in examination malpractice. He has instructed that any teacher found aiding students during exams, particularly through the use of mobile phones, should be dismissed without delay.

This directive comes amid increasing concerns over the credibility of the country’s examination system. The Minister noted that the rising misuse of technology to promote cheating undermines efforts to instill discipline and integrity within the educational sector.

Speaking during the 25th anniversary celebration of the International Community School in Kumasi, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu underscored the critical responsibility educators hold in shaping both the academic and moral development of students. He cautioned that teachers who support or ignore dishonest practices in exams are damaging the core values of education and must be held accountable.

“Our teachers are not just instructors; they are character-builders,” he stated. “Allowing malpractice in the classroom defeats the very purpose of education.”

In addition to addressing educators, the Minister called on parents to play a more active role in supervising their children’s use of mobile devices. He emphasized that unmonitored access to technology has become a major factor fueling dishonesty in schools. Parents, he urged, must help guide their children toward values rooted in truth and integrity.

The Minister’s stance has been widely commended as a bold and necessary move to safeguard the credibility of Ghana’s education system. Stakeholders view this as a clear indication of the government’s renewed commitment to upholding ethical standards in schools.

Concluding his remarks, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu stressed that the fight for academic integrity must be a collective effort. “We must all rise to the occasion and protect the future of our children through discipline and honesty,” he affirmed.
