Electoral Commission Addresses Delay in Allowance Payments for 2024 Election Officials

On May 26, 2025, the Electoral Commission of Ghana released a formal communication to all temporary officials who participated in the 2024 General Election, addressing the current delay in the payment of their allowances. The memo, issued by the Deputy Chairman of Corporate Services, was directed to Returning Officers and all temporary staff involved in the electoral process.

In the statement, the Commission explained that the delay in payments stems from the Ministry of Finance’s inability to release the required funds to the Commission. Until these funds are received, the Commission is unable to process and disburse the allowances owed to the temporary officials.

Despite the inconvenience caused, the Commission conveyed its sincere apologies and assured affected individuals that the Ministry of Finance has promised to release the funds soon. Once the funds are made available, the Commission will proceed with settling all outstanding payments.

The Electoral Commission also took the opportunity to thank all temporary officials for their dedication, commitment, and professionalism during the 2024 General Election. Their efforts, the memo highlighted, were crucial to the success of the electoral process.

The Commission concluded by expressing gratitude for the patience and understanding shown by all affected individuals during this period.
