GES Reverses Suspension of Over 30 Sawla SHS Students

In a surprising development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed the management of Sawla Senior High School (SHS) in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region to reinstate over 30 students who were suspended indefinitely last Wednesday. The students, primarily second-year female students, were accused of engaging in immoral conduct and carrying mobile phones within the school premises.

As stated by Anthony Kwasi Yeboah, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Director of GES, the school did not possess the authority to enforce such disciplinary action on the affected students. Yeboah mentioned that the headmaster has been directed to reinstate all students immediately, underscoring that the school's choice to suspend the students without prior consultation with the district or regional GES offices was unwarranted.

The suspension was enacted following an inquiry conducted by a seven-member committee, which investigated allegations of immoral conduct and the possession of mobile phones on the campus. However, the GES has ruled the suspension as invalid, pointing out the school's lack of authority to administer such a penalty.

GES has promised the public that it will diligently oversee the situation to ensure that the students are reinstated and permitted to resume their educational activities without any further interruptions. The District Director, Anthony Kwasi Yeboah, is set to visit the school on Wednesday to interact with the management and facilitate a smooth reentry for the affected students.

This occurrence underscores the necessity of adhering to proper procedures and protocols in matters of discipline, especially within educational institutions. The GES's prompt action serves as a reminder that the rights and welfare of students must be safeguarded and honored at all times.
