The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has announced a revision of the curfew hours in Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region. The new curfew runs from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am, effective Monday, August 18, 2025.
Government is urging Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, the Youth, and residents of the affected areas to remain calm and exercise restraint in the midst of the challenges they face. Citizens are encouraged to adopt non-violent approaches in resolving issues and to focus their efforts on promoting peace within their communities.
In addition to the curfew, a complete ban remains in place on the possession of arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons in the Bawku Municipality and its environs. Individuals found in violation of this directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
This directive was officially issued and signed by Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), Minister for the Interior, on August 18, 2025.
