The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year for all basic schools, including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools. This important update outlines the school terms, vacation periods, and examination dates to guide school heads, teachers, students, and stakeholders throughout the academic year.
Term Dates for KG to JHS 2
The academic year is divided into three terms, each with specific reopening and closing dates.
First Term (15 Weeks)

Vacation Period: 19th December 2025 – 7th January 2026

Mid-Term Break: 31st October – 3rd November 2025 (2 days)
Second Term (12 Weeks)

Junior High School 3 students will follow the same term structure but with a critical additional schedule for their final examination.

BECE Schedule
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been slated for 4th May to 11th May 2026. All stakeholders are encouraged to take note of this timeline and prepare adequately to ensure a successful examination period.

All public holidays that fall within the academic calendar should be observed accordingly.

Each term includes a two-day mid-term break for all basic schools. For the first term, this break falls between 31st October and 3rd November 2025.
