The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Dr. Saajida Shiraz, has reaffirmed her unwavering dedication to ensuring teacher trainees receive their allowances on time and through a transparent process.
In a statement released on Thursday, March 10, 2025, Dr. Shiraz underscored the importance of efficient service delivery, saying, “We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring timely, transparent, and efficient service delivery to all eligible beneficiaries.”
She further noted that the SLTF has instituted strong and consistent measures to ensure that future disbursements are executed smoothly and reliably. “Robust mechanisms are continuously being enhanced to ensure that disbursements remain consistent and fully compliant with existing policy guidelines,” she added.
This renewed commitment comes on the heels of the recent full payment of three months' allowance arrears to 65,685 teacher trainees enrolled in accredited Colleges of Education across the country. The announcement of the payments was met with widespread excitement, with trainees expressing profound relief and gratitude as they received their notifications.
For many teacher trainees, the disbursement has eased financial burdens, allowing them to meet academic obligations and cover personal expenses. The timely release of the allowances is seen by many as a step toward improving equity and access to tertiary education.
The assurance of regular payments has also been welcomed by stakeholders within the education sector. Observers believe that the effective management of these funds plays a critical role in supporting teacher trainees and enhancing the overall quality of education.
As the SLTF continues to streamline its operations, trainees and education professionals alike are optimistic that the institution will maintain its commitment to prompt and transparent financial support.
