Over 91,000 Ghanaians Apply for One Million Coders Programme


Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has announced an overwhelming response to the One Million Coders Programme, with a total of 91,847 applications received to date.


Speaking at the official launch of the programme in Accra on Wednesday, April 16, the Minister expressed excitement over the level of interest shown by Ghanaians. The initiative aims to provide young people with vital digital skills to thrive in today’s technology-driven world.

“Mr. President, we planned to do the pilot with 260 students, but within the first four hours of announcing, we had over 4,000 applications. We decided to do a double track and do 520,” George shared.


He further revealed that the number of applications continued to rise rapidly. “As at this morning about 30 minutes ago the number of applications we have received is 91,847 applications. This speaks to the visionary nature of your plan and vision to transform our digital ecosystem.”

The One Million Coders Programme is a key initiative aimed at training Ghanaians in areas such as coding, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies. The high number of applicants highlights the growing enthusiasm among citizens to seize new opportunities within the digital economy.
