Dr. Samuel Koranteng Pipim Urges Ghana to Rethink Education: Beyond Certificates to Mind Empowerment

At the 2025 Public Lecture Series hosted by the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), renowned Ghanaian author and leadership trainer based in the United States, Dr. Samuel Koranteng Pipim, delivered a compelling message to Ghana’s education sector. He emphasized that the true purpose of education extends far beyond the acquisition of certificates.

Dr. Pipim highlighted the need for a shift in focus—urging educators and institutions to prioritize the empowerment and liberation of the mind. “Education is not simply the learning of facts or passing exams. It is about training the mind to think critically, creatively, and intensively,” he said during his lecture.

To reinforce his point, Dr. Pipim referenced global and local thought leaders, including Albert Einstein and Dr. J.E.K. Aggrey, one of Ghana’s foremost educationists. He echoed Aggrey’s definition of education as a balanced development of the head, hand, and heart. According to him, “We should not limit education to just reading, writing, and arithmetic. It must include developing the skills of the hands, building the morals of the heart, and empowering the head to think.”

Dr. Pipim concluded his address with a call to action for educational institutions in Ghana. He encouraged a comprehensive review of teaching methodologies to reflect a more holistic educational approach—one that prepares students not just for exams, but for meaningful contributions to society and national development.
